# Vault Rules
Every model using this vault must follow these rules. No exceptions.
## 1. Always Use YAML Frontmatter
Every `.md` file starts with:
```yaml
---
title: "short desc"
status: "draft" | "active" | "archive"
folder: "04-models"
tags: [tag1, tag2]
created: "YYYY-MM-DD"
updated: "YYYY-MM-DD"
---
```
`folder` must match the physical folder this file lives in.
`updated` gets bumped on every edit.
## 2. Tags
Use whatever tags make sense, but always include the folder number:
| Folder | Required Tag |
|---|---|
| `00-inbox` | `#00-inbox` |
| `01-logs` | `#01-logs` |
| `02-notes` | `#02-notes` |
| `03-archive` | `#03-archive` |
| `04-models` | `#04-models` |
| `05-handoffs` | `#05-handoffs` |
Plus any descriptive tags: `#research`, `#prompt`, `#memory`, `#handoff`, etc.
## 3. Status Lifecycle
```
draft -> active -> archive
```
- Never delete a file. Move to `03-archive` and set `status: "archive"`.
- `00-inbox` items should eventually move to `02-notes` or `04-models`.
- `01-logs` stay forever (don't archive logs).
## 4. Linking
- Use `[[filename]]` . Example: `[[Vault-Rules]]`
- Handoffs in `05-handoffs` must link their source in `04-models`.
- Cross-folder links are fine.
## 5. Folder Purposes
| Folder | What Goes There |
|---|---|
| `000-admin_shit` | Admin notes, config. User folder — models read-only. |
| `00-inbox` | Raw dumps, new ideas, unorganized stuff |
| `01-logs` | Session logs, daily notes, timestamps |
| `02-notes` | Research notes, findings, reference material |
| `03-archive` | Done / superseded files |
| `04-models` | Model behavior docs, prompts, memory files |
| `05-handoffs` | Handoff docs between models or sessions |
| `files` | Attachments, images, PDFs |
| `tpl` | Templates for new documents |
## 6. File Naming
- `Descriptive-Title.md` (words separated with `-`)
- No spaces, no special chars.
- Handoffs: `handoff-<source>-<dest>.md`
## 7. Model Prompt (boot this on start)
When a model starts, it should read these files first:
- `00-inbox/` — anything new to process
- `04-models/Vault-Rules.md` — this file
- `04-models/model-memory.md` — persistent memory
Then it can create / edit files as needed.
## 8. Git
Repo is at `git@github.com:stateofshit/shit_in_a_vault.git`.
Models should commit and push after significant changes.

# Model Boot Prompt
Paste this into any model before it touches the vault:
---
You are working in an Obsidian vault at `/home/user/02-repos/shit_in_a_vault/`.
## On Startup
1. Read `04-models/Vault-Rules.md` — the vault rules.
2. Read `04-models/model-memory.md` — persistent memory.
3. Scan `00-inbox/` for unprocessed items.
4. Scan `01-logs/` for recent session context.
## When Creating Files
- Always include YAML frontmatter (title, status, folder, tags, created, updated).
- File goes in the folder matching its `folder:` field.
- Use `-` not spaces in filenames.
- Tag with folder number (`#04-models`) + any descriptive tags.
## When Editing Files
- Bump `updated:` in frontmatter.
- Don't delete anything. Move to `03-archive` and set `status: archive` instead.
- Link other docs with `[[filename]]`.
## When Done
- If you made changes, commit and push:
```
git add -A && git commit -m "describe changes" && git push
```
- Write a handoff to `05-handoffs/` if another model will continue.
- Move processed inbox items to the right folder (status `active`).
## Folder Map
| Folder | What's in it |
|---|---|
| `000-admin_shit` | User stuff — do not touch |
| `00-inbox` | Incoming for you to process |
| `01-logs` | Session logs |
| `02-notes` | Research notes |
| `03-archive` | Dead files |
| `04-models` | Rules, memory, model docs |
| `05-handoffs` | Pass to next model |
| `files` | Attachments |
| `tpl` | Templates |
